Another possible rigging bug

Post by ulfstein » Thu Apr 02, 2020 11:19 am

Hi guys,

I'm having similar problems to the ones I was having with the horse some weeks ago - I go to auto rig and one of two things happens:
1- the comp switches to the "magic is happening" comp and doesn't switch back to the rigging comp, or
2- nothing at all happens - I can select structures and click rig as often as I like and nothing happens

It changes between 1 or 2 depending on whether I've restarted AE or even restarted the computer, but it's never the same.

Here's the project that is causing me trouble: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/525q984lt4ge ... G-0ka?dl=0
It's a very basic rig consisting of just a few structures. I'm working in AE17.0.5 on a Mac, running the latest version of Duik.

We're in the middle of production with this project so if you were able to help us figure this out I'd be very grateful.

Best regards

Thanks for the feedback and the project, I'll have a look at that before the end of the week; There should be an update this weekend with a few fixes

Hi Duduf, there's another problem I'm encountering which is that I'm unable to open the tail structure options - I have to restart AE before I can do this.

By the way, this is the first video in the series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Gtwa3peRwk Make sure to turn your volume right down or the song will send you crazy.

Oooh so cute!

Regarding the options panel issue, is it happening when Duik's Panel is close to the edge of your screen? And do you have the issue with other options or just for this particular tool?

For your issue with the autorig:

- As you've rigged the hair with a tail structure (which is what I do too), Duik looks for a spine to parent it (it's a tail after all, that makes sense)
- But your spine does not have hips. And Duik miserably fails to parent the tail to the hips ;)

Workaround: you can run the autorig separately for the hair/tail and for the spine.

This is fixed in 16.2.9 available tomorrow; but with 16.2.9 in your case the hair might be parented to the neck instead of the head, you'll have to change this manually ;)

It's in my plans to add "hair" structures which will work better with the autorig

Re. the tail options panel, I've not been able to reproduce it. If it happens again I'll keep your question in mind.
