Parenting across compositions and puppet pin issues

Post by Simon Haynes » Tue May 12, 2020 7:58 pm

Hi

I am just animating a cartoon I draw, it's a worm. I am trying some different ways to get a 'bendy/rubberhose' look to the character... it works fine until I try to parent a layer within a comp. I have tried this a few ways and always appear to get the same result – I am rigging a drawn psd image in a comp layer with puppet pins. Having rigged the shape using bones/a custom structure it bends fine ... On parenting one of the layer in the comp so i can rotate the head of the worm without distorting it, it breaks. I have included a video, the break occurs roughly at 12 mins in. I have attached a still of this – many thanks for anyone's help/advice in advance!

FYI – the head rotate only breaks when using it in conjunction with the Controller built with puppet pins/bones

video is on frame io

If you parent the head in the precomp to the controller outside, your bypassing the puppet and the whole rig you've made...

If you want to control the head rotation with the controller, use an expression to connect the head Angle in the FK controller to the rotation of the Head controller, that should work more like you expect
