Simple Humanoid halts my AE (performance issue?)

Post by fatnmad » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:08 pm

Hi together,

first: thank you for DUIK and its Service the recent years (I think I started in 2012) :)

At the moment I have a strange issue with my (simple) rig:
When I try to move Bodyparts (e.g. Hand) or jump in my timeline, the whole setup / AE is extremely slow or freezes completely; sometimes AE tells me that it has cancelled the expressions. Every move I make seems to destroy my comp...

It's a humanoid structure that has vector-graphics attached to it. I rebuilt it several times without making any difference :/

Any Suggestions/Ideas?
(Comp is attached)
(I never had such issues with duik and other parts of the comp work fine.)

Best wishes and thank you!

Mario

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback!

There is indeed a bug in the project, I have the same issue here. This should not happen, I'm investigating, I'll let you know as soon as I've found what's wrong!

Nailed it!

You have parent links on the elbows, this is what causes serious performance issues ( https://rainbox-dev.github.io/DuAEF_Dui ... rformance/ )
This tool is really meant to be used only when the parent constraint has to be animated and to change ; and the longer the composition is, the more bad impact it has on performance (and here it is 5min which is a lot)
When rigging and not animating, you should instead use the position or orientation constraint. For what you're trying to do, I would parent the bone of the elbow to either the arm or the forearm structure, and use the orientation constraint instead of your parent link. This works pretty well, and you can even link the scale of the bone to a slider on the controller to control the tangents ;)

wow, duduf, thanks for your lightning-like-help! :)

The idea with the Parent-Constraint through this video by School Of Motion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-v8A9ZdqL4

But I'll try your tips and work around that. (I didn't even know the "parant constraint" is already marked as a performance issue)

Thanks again and greetings from berlin ;)
